The Post Tree Chenin Blanc 2019 Swartland, Western Cape, South Africa 75cl

The Post Tree takes its name from the old milkwood tree at Mossel Bay that early Portuguese sailors used as a postbox, leaving letters for passing ships. The wines are made in the Riebeek Valley of the Swartland, on the warm slopes of the Kasteelberg, by a small team led by winemaker Eric Saayman.

Chenin Blanc is the Cape’s most planted white and the Swartland gives it real presence. This bottling is made without oak, so the focus stays on clean, forward fruit and the variety’s gentle natural weight. It is built as an approachable, dry white for everyday drinking rather than a wine for the cellar, and it makes an honest introduction to South African Chenin.

The Swartland is a warm, dry district of old bush vines and granite and shale soils, which tends to give Chenin ripe fruit balanced by firm acidity.
