Spier is one of the Cape’s oldest and most historic wine farms, based in Stellenbosch and known as much for its sustainability work as its wines. The Creative Block range is its blending showcase, each wine named for the number of components it brings together.

Creative Block 2 is a two-part white, marrying Sauvignon Blanc with Semillon. The Sauvignon brings zip, citrus and green freshness, while the Semillon adds body, texture and a waxy, lanolin richness that fills out the middle of the palate. A portion of the blend usually sees older oak, which builds breadth without adding obvious wood.

The 2020 is a rounded, generous release, with the two varieties well knitted together and plenty of coastal freshness holding it in balance. It is the kind of blend that shows why Sauvignon and Semillon have been paired for so long.
