Miles Mossop earned his reputation over almost two decades as winemaker at Tokara before focusing on his own Stellenbosch label. Alongside the named flagship wines and the Chapter range, the Introduction wines are the entry point, made to be fresh, honest and immediately enjoyable. They are a friendly, affordable way into a serious winemaker’s work.

Chenin Blanc is the obvious choice for an accessible Cape white, a grape South Africa has made its own, and this is a pure Chenin Blanc made in a bright, fruit-forward style. Rather than heavy oak or complexity, the aim here is clean fruit, freshness and easy drinking, drawn from Stellenbosch vineyards. Handled simply and bottled early, it keeps the bright, primary character of the grape front and centre.

The 2023 is a young, recently released vintage, bottled to catch its fruit at its freshest and made for drinking over the next couple of years.

Expect aromas of melon, pear and fresh citrus, with a hint of orchard blossom. The palate is light, dry and juicy, with clean fruit, a gentle roundness and a crisp, refreshing finish. Serve it well chilled, straight from the fridge, as an easy aperitif or with light food.

This is an unfussy, sociable white that shows the appeal of South African Chenin without asking much of the drinker, and a good starting point if you are new to the grape or to Miles Mossop’s wines. Good with green salads, light grilled fish, or simply on its own in the sun.
