Klein Graniet is a small family estate tucked into the western foothills of the Simonsberg, just outside Stellenbosch. Brothers Retief and Stephan du Toit run it on decomposed granite soils, working to a simple motto, Not more. Better. Once known as Deux Frères, the wines took the Klein Graniet name in a nod to the granite that shapes them.

Mourvèdre is a rare sight in the Cape, and Klein Graniet farms a single block of it in deep, sandy granite soil. Rather than press it into a big red every year, the brothers turn part of the crop into this dry rosé, picking early to hold onto freshness. It is a Blanc de Noir in spirit, gentle skin contact giving colour without heaviness, and it exists simply because the fruit lends itself so well to it.

The 2025 harvest gave South African growers plenty to smile about. A dry, cool season with mild summer temperatures and no punishing heat spikes let fruit ripen slowly and evenly, locking in bright acidity and clean flavour. For an early-picked rosé like this one, those conditions are ideal, handing the wine its lift and its fresh, primary character.

In the glass it shows a pale coral pink with a faint orange glow. Aromas of white peach and fresh raspberry come through, lifted by a pretty note of violets. The palate is soft and rounded, with a delicate acidity that keeps everything balanced rather than sharp. It finishes clean and gently fruity. Serve well chilled, and enjoy it young while its freshness is at its best.

There is no score to quote here, and the wine does not need one. Think of it alongside a dry Provençal rosé, but with a little more roundness and a South African sunshine warmth. It suits Mediterranean plates, summer lunches and easy weekends with friends. Quietly made and quietly confident, it is the kind of bottle you reach for without a second thought.
