Eikendal sits on the slopes of the Helderberg, in the maritime Golden Triangle between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. The farm has been owned by the Saager family of Zurich since 1981, and its barrel-vaulted cellar and towering fountain are a well-known landmark on the R44.

This is a pure Merlot, drawn from vineyards that benefit from cooling ocean breezes and a mountain-and-sea microclimate. That setting suits the grape, tempering its ripeness and giving the wine freshness alongside its natural plushness.
