Eikendal Vineyards sits in the Helderberg foothills between Somerset West and Stellenbosch, on a farm the Swiss Saager family has owned since 1981. The estate is known for its barrel-vaulted cellar and for vines that benefit from a cooling maritime influence, a spot often called the golden triangle of Cape wine growing.

This is a classic Bordeaux blend, built around Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown on Stellenbosch soils. Cabernet lends backbone, cassis and structure, while Merlot fills the middle with plush, rounded fruit. It is a style Stellenbosch does with real conviction, and Eikendal makes it with restraint rather than sheer power, favouring balance over weight at every turn.

The 2015 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest in recent South African memory, a warm, dry year that gave ripe fruit and firm, even tannins. Wines from this harvest have the concentration and balance to reward time in the cellar, and this is a blend built to keep evolving.

Expect a deep, brooding glass of blue and black fruit, layered with a savoury, earthy edge and a lick of oak spice.
