Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s calling card, and Doran Vineyards gives it a proper stage. The estate lies in the Voor Paardeberg near Paarl, founded by Irish-born Edwin Doran in 2010 and now run by his son Tom. It is a hands-on, mixed farm, its vineyards worked in a more natural direction and shared with cattle, sheep and wild fynbos.

This is the top Chenin in the Doran range, a barrel-aged Reserve made to show what the grape can do with a little ambition. Spending twelve months in oak and going through a full malolactic fermentation gives it weight, texture and a creamy roundness, while careful winemaking keeps the oak in its place.
